Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC Students, Assam 2025-26 is an opportunity to provide financial support to students in Class 11 and above. The scheme is being offered by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and implemented by the Directorate of Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes (DWPTBC), Government of Assam. Under this scheme, selected candidates will receive scholarships up to ₹20,000 and other benefits.
Eligibility
To be eligible, an applicant must:-
- be an Indian national
- be domiciled in Assam
- belong to the Other Backward Class (OBC) community
- be studying in classes 11 or above in a recognised institution/college/university (as specified in the terms & conditions section below)
- have passed matriculation or higher secondary or any higher level examination from a recognised University or Board of Secondary Education
- have an annual parent(s)/guardian(s) income of not more than ₹2,50,000 from all sources
Note:-
- Candidates who, after passing one stage of education, are studying in the same stage of education in a different subject e.g. B.Sc. after B. A or B.Com.after B.A. or M.A. in a subject after M.A. in another subject will not be eligible.
- Students who, after having completed their educational career in one professional line, e.g., LLB after B.T/B. Ed will not be eligible.
- Students pursuing postgraduate courses in medicine will be eligible, only if they are not allowed to practice during the period of their course.
- Candidates, who are pursuing their studies through correspondence are eligible to apply. The term correspondence includes distance and continuous education for courses in Central/State universities only.
- No scholarship will be paid to the students who have accepted benefits under some other scholarship. However, students may avail of free housing, grants, or other financial aid to help cover costs like books, equipment, and living expenses, under this scheme.
Benefits
The selected candidates will receive the following benefits:-

Note:- Students studying through correspondence/online courses shall not be eligible for the academic allowance. However, tuition fees will be paid to them.
Freeship Card:
- As per the scheme guidelines, all the students are eligible for admission to the institutions without pre-payment of tuition fees and hostel fees. To avail of this benefit, a freeship card will be issued to the eligible students by the state government.
- Students with freeship cards can attend school without immediate fees. The institution will later receive the fees directly from the scholarship funds.
Documents
- A passport-size photograph of the student
- Academic transcripts including certificates, diplomas, degrees, etc.
- A valid caste certificate duly signed by an authorised officer
- An income certificate parent(s)/guardian(s) issued by the authority as decided by the state government
- A receipt in acknowledgement of the scholarship in the previous year (if applicable)
- Disability certificate (if applicable)
How can you apply?
Eligible applicants can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-
Step 1: Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button below.
Step 2: Click on the ‘Register’ button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Navigate to the ‘Students’ option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 4: Now, click on the ‘Login’ button under the OTR option as it is required to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Step 5: Click on the ‘New user? Register yourself’ on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 6: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the ‘Next’ button.
Step 7: Enter a functional mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, then submit to complete the registration process.
Step 8: Fill in the required details and click on ‘Save & Register’ to complete the ‘One-time registration (OTR)’ process. (Note:- This is a temporary registration number, students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.)
Step 9: After successful registration, navigate to the ‘Apply for Scholarship’ option and click on the ‘Login’ button.
Step 10: Select the scholarship, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents and submit.
Note:- All the applicants are advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form. Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made. Additionally, submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.

Terms and Conditions
- The scholarship will be provided for studies in India only.
- The income certificate will be taken only once which will be at the time of admission to the course.
- The applicants are requested to fill out the application form online, with the correct and verifiable details only.
- If the candidate discontinues the scholarship, they will be liable to refund the amount received.
- The candidate can change their subject of choice only after prior approval from the head of the institution for the same.
- If a candidate wants to change their course before taking admission to an institution, they can do so by logging on IT portal and a fresh Freeship Card shall be issued automatically for all eligible students.
- In case of renewal students, there shall be no need for fresh registration for the Freeship card and a card once issued shall be valid for the entire duration of the course.
- Students who pursue recognised professional or technical certificates, diplomas, or degree programs after completing their undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Arts, Science, or Commerce, regardless of their exam results, will be eligible for scholarships. However, subsequent failures are not tolerated, except in specific Group “1” courses, and switching to a different program is not permitted once enrolled.
- Scholarships are available to a maximum of two males from the same family. This limit does not apply to females, i.e. the females receiving scholarships will not affect the eligibility of their brothers to receive scholarships within the family limit of two.
- The scholarship will be given to study all post-secondary courses including intermediate, senior-secondary, diploma, long-term vocational training certificate, graduate, postgraduate degree, etc. from a recognised institution falling in one of the below 9 categories:-
- Institution of National Importance
- Central or State University/Autonomous colleges recognised by the University Grant Commission (UGC) and universities/colleges recognised under section 2(f) of UGC act
- Deemed universities
- All private universities recognised by state/centre
- Private professional institutions affiliated with a recognised Central/State University and covered by a fee fixation committee as mandated by the Supreme Court
- Recognised schools/colleges for Class 11 and 12
- Diploma granting institution as recognised by the State/UT Government
- Vocational Training Institutes affiliated with the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT)
- Institutions affiliated/approved by the appropriate bodies like the National Medical Commission (NMC)/All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) etc. or any other regulatory body established by the State/Central Government
For Renewal of the Scholarship:
- The scholarship granted under the scheme will be renewed during the period of the first-year postgraduate course subject to good conduct and maintenance of 75% attendance. The attendance will be verified through an aadhaar-based attendance system.
- If a student fails to appear for the annual exam due to illness, their scholarship can still be renewed. They are just required to provide a medical certificate from the approved authority, and the institution/awarding body needs to accept it.
- Even if a student gets promoted but doesn’t pass the previous year’s exams, they can still receive the scholarship for their new class, as long as they meet the other scholarship requirements and their university/institute allows this exception.
- If a student fails and repeats a class, their scholarship will continue for one additional year or for the duration of the repeated class, whichever is less.
