PM Kusum Yojana: Under PM Kusum Yojana, the central and state government gives subsidies to the farmers. However, the amount of subsidy may vary according to the state. With the help of this scheme, farmers can do farming even on barren land by installing solar pumps. In this sequence, the Yogi government has topped up an additional amount of Rs 168.63 crore for the installation of solar pumps on 60 percent subsidy in the interest of farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha and Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM Kusum) scheme.
As a result of an increase in the price of raw materials of solar pumps, the tender price of solar panels increased by 18 to 20 percent last year. As a result, the burden of farmers’ share was increasing on the farmers. Keeping in view the popularity of the scheme, the state government allowed a 60 percent subsidy to the farmers on the price of solar pumps, the additional price was topped up from the state government’s share. Rs 68.29 crore for the year 2023-24 and Rs 100.34 crore for the year 2024-25, thus a total additional amount of Rs 168.63 crore has been approved by the Council of Ministers.
By providing the installation of solar pumps to the farmers, there will be savings in diesel and electricity and also a reduction in carbon intensity at the national level. 30000 solar pumps will be installed in the year 23-24 and 44250 solar pumps in the year 2024-25, thus a total of 74250 solar irrigation pumps will be installed. On the installation of these solar pumps, Rs 285.39 crore will be spent in the year 2023-24 and Rs 406.564 crore in the year 2024-25, thus a total of Rs 691.9540 crore will be spent by the state government.
