Central Sanskrit University Delhi Merit Scholarship 2024-25

Central Sanskrit University (CSU), Delhi Merit Scholarship 2024-25 is an opportunity offered by Central Schemes of Ministry of Education, Government of India and implemented by Central Sanskrit University, Delhi. The scholarship aims to provide financial support to students studying Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a main or optional subject in recognised Sanskrit Pathashalas, Sanskrit Mahavidyalayas, Sanskrit Vishwa Vidyalayas (Traditional Stream) or Schools/Colleges/Universities (Modern Stream).

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must:- 

  • be an Indian national
  • fulfill the following academic criteria in the previous qualifying examination to obtain a scholarship under traditional stream:-

  • fulfill the following academic criteria in the previous qualifying examination to obtain a scholarship under modern stream:- [For Class 8,9,10,11,12, B.A., B.A. (Hons.),M.A., M.A. (Hons), Ph.D. or equivalent]
    • have passed the previous examination (i.e.,Class 8 or equivalent) with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate/overall and 60% marks or equivalent grade in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit.
    • have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a subject worth at least 100 marks or equivalent grade in both the current and previous classes

Note:-

  • Merit for all Modern Stream students will be calculated solely based on Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit marks. However, for Traditional Stream or Honors students in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit, the merit will be determined by the overall percentage across all subjects.
  • Candidates must register for the Vidya-Varidhi course before the advertisement is released. Registration should occur no more than two years prior to the advertisement date.
Benefits

Selected students will receive the following scholarship amount:-

Class Amount
Class 9/Purva-Madhyama (first year) or Class 10/Purva-Madhyama (second year), or equivalent ₹500 per month for 10 months
Class 12/Prak-Shastri 2nd year/Uttarmadhyama 2nd year or equivalent course ₹600 per month for 10 months
Shastri – 1st/2nd/3rd/ B.A. 1st/2nd/3rd/ B.A. (Hons) – 1st/2nd/3rd/ or equivalent course ₹800 per month for 10 months
Acharya (1st/2nd year) or M.A. (1st/2nd year) or equivalent in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit ₹1,000 per month for 10 months
Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D. degree in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit ₹2,500 per month for 12 months and ₹5,000 per annum as a contingency

Note:- The scholarship amount shall be given for 10 months in each academic year from July to April. The scholarship for the Ph.D./Vidyavaridhi program shall be given for three full years i.e. 36 months.

How can you apply?

Eligible institutions can apply for the scholarship using the steps listed below:-
Step 1:
 Click the ‘Apply Now’ button below.
Step 2: Click on the ‘Register’ button on the right-hand side of the dashboard and fill in the required details to ‘Register’. (Note:- If already registered, log in using the registered email ID)
Step 3: Navigate to the ‘Campus/Institution/College/School Registration Form’ and fill the required details to register.

Once, the names of activated institutions will appear in the drop-down menu of the students’ Scholarship Online Application the students would be able to apply for the opportunity and confirmation of the activation will be sent to the institution’s designated email address. If there are objections to an institution’s details, the Central Sanskrit University will send an email, allowing the institution to modify its information or upload sufficient details in the online registration form. (Note:- Once an institution is activated, its details cannot be modified.)

After the relevant institution is activated, a student can log in and apply for a scholarship here. If the student’s campus, institution, college, or school name does not appear in the dropdown menu, they may contact the Head of the Institution for registration of the concerned institution or wait until activation.

Selection Criteria
The Central Sanskrit University will award scholarships based on recommendations from a Scholarship Selection Committee it establishes. The committee’s recommendations will be submitted to the GIAC for final approval.Merit will be assessed using marks or grades obtained in Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit. For Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit honours students, the overall grade or percentage in the honours program will be considered.

Terms and Conditions
The minimum percentage of marks required for candidates belonging to the following categories is as follows:

  • OBC: 55%
  • Schedule Caste (SC)/Schedule TribeST: 50%
  • Person with Disabilities (PwD): 50%

Relaxation of Percentage:

  • Relaxation in the required percentage for SC, ST, PH, and OBC students will be granted upon submission of a caste certificate issued in their own name by designated authorities. Certificates in the names of parents or other family members will not be accepted.
  • There is no relaxation in the minimum percentage of marks required for candidates belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category. However, they may avail the benefits of reservation under EWS by submitting an Income and Asset Certificate issued by a competent authority, as per Government of India rules
  • The scholarship amount will be payable from the 1st of July of each academic year. The funds will be transferred directly to the selected student’s account via PFMS, E-transfer, NEFT, or RBI. The concerned Vidyalaya, institution, or university will receive notification of the scholarship disbursement via email or post.
  • A student receiving any scholarship or monetary benefit from another institution during the academic year is ineligible for a scholarship under this scheme. A student employed or pursuing a non-Sanskrit course while receiving this scholarship will be disqualified.
  • Applicants must submit the prescribed application form, declaring that they are:
    • Regularly enrolled in a course with Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit as a core subject.
    • Not receiving any other scholarship or stipend.
    • Currently unemployed.
    • Obligated to inform the university immediately of any scholarship award or employment.
  • For students commencing MA after completing B.Ed., B.A. marks will be considered for scholarship eligibility if there is no gap in study.
  • To be eligible, a student must have completed at least one year or two semesters of Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit coursework.
  • Marks obtained in Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit as an additional subject will be considered for scholarship purposes. When Sanskrit, Pali, or Prakrit is studied as Modern Indian Language 1, 2, or 3, this should be indicated on the marksheet.
  • Students may submit only one scholarship application per academic session.
  • Applications received before the advertisement date, submitted offline, incomplete, or filled out in the old format and separately printed will not be considered.
  • The University reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions as deemed necessary. It also reserves the right to reject any application without providing a reason. The University’s decision in this matter is final and binding.
  • In the “State” field of the online application, applicants must indicate the state in which they are currently studying.
  • Merit certificates will be awarded to students who voluntarily return their scholarships. These scholarships may then be granted to needy students. If a student is selected for a scholarship but chooses to relinquish it in favour of a needy peer, they will receive an appreciation certificate instead of the scholarship amount.
  • If a student enrolls in a Ph.D program after completing a B.Ed, M.Ed, or M.Phil degree, their M.A. marks will be considered for scholarship eligibility.
  • Students must be admitted to the Ph.D/Vidyavaridhi program in regular mode, adhering to the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D Degree) Regulations 2009/2016 and any subsequent UGC guidelines.
  • The scholarship scheme has a duration of three years. Candidates will be considered for scholarships during any three years of their Ph.D/Vidyavaridhi research, starting from the admission date and ending five years from the enrollment date. Awardees must dedicate full-time to research during the scholarship tenure and cannot accept part-time or full-time employment. Additionally, they cannot accept any other salary, fellowship, or scholarship from other sources.
  • The merit list for Ph.D/Vidyavaridhi scholarships will be prepared based on the candidate’s M.A/Acharya or equivalent degree. Reasonable breaks in education between post-graduation and the Ph.D. will be considered.
  • If a candidate’s progress is deemed unsatisfactory by the Supervisor/Head of the Department/Dean/Head of the Research Institute, the scholarship will be terminated immediately.
  • No scholarship will be provided for a second Ph.D. degree.
