Chief Minister Agro Forestry Scheme has been started by the Bihar Government for all the farmer brothers of its state. Under this scheme, farmers have to plant poplar trees along with their crops on the slopes of their fields or in vacant areas. Farmers will be given a poplar sapling from the government nursery for ₹ 10 and this ₹ 10 will also be returned to the farmers after 3 years. Apart from this, if after 3 years there is survival of 50% or more of these trees purchased by the Forest Department, an additional benefit at the rate of ₹ 60 per tree will be given. While planting trees by farmers, the minimum height of the plants should be 10 feet and the circumference should be 2.5 inches.

Eligibility Criteria under Bihar Agroforestry Scheme

> All farmer brothers of Bihar are eligible to apply under this scheme.
> The applicant farmer should have his land or land taken on lease but the land taken on lease should be for at least 3 years.
> To plant poplar saplings, the land should be flat and free from waterlogging.
Rs 20000 should be deposited in the farmer’s bank account as capital under the scheme.
> There should be a complete irrigation system for planting poplar saplings on the farmer’s land.
> The land for allotment through this scheme has been kept from half an acre to 3 acres per person.
